Make This Better ("we", "us", or "our") provides a feedback widget and AI-assisted triage platform at makethisbetter.dev (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from you and the visitors of sites that embed our widget, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and authentication data (including OAuth profile data if you sign in with a third-party provider).

Feedback content. When an end user submits feedback through a widget embedded on your site, we collect the content they provide, which may include:

  • Feedback text and category/severity
  • An automatic screenshot of the page at the time of submission; the widget does not show a screenshot preview
  • DOM snapshots and interaction events when the reporter uses Interaction Replay, plus filtered error context
  • Browser, operating system, viewport, and page URL
  • Reporter details voluntarily supplied: email, name, and an optional external ID you use to identify your own users

Capture filtering. Before upload, the widget automatically replaces passwords, payment-card data, security codes, one-time codes, access credentials, and other high-confidence secrets detected from field metadata or content patterns. Site owners can also mark page regions to hide their content across screenshots, Interaction Replay, breadcrumbs, and annotations. Ordinary page text and ordinary form values may still be captured because they are often needed to reproduce a problem. Automated filtering cannot identify every site-specific secret.

Screenshot and Interaction Replay filtering happens in the reporter's browser. If that filtering fails, the affected attachment is omitted and the text feedback can still be submitted. Our servers apply the sensitive-text filter again to submitted text, structured context, and Replay data.

Billing information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers; Stripe provides us limited billing metadata (plan, status, invoice history).

Usage data. We collect standard server logs (IP address, request timestamps, user agent) for security and reliability purposes.

2. How We Use Information

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Service, including your feedback board and dashboard
  • Triage and summarize submitted feedback, including with AI processing (see Section 3)
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Send transactional email (e.g. account, billing, feedback notifications)
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent abuse, fraud, or security incidents
  • Comply with legal obligations

3. AI Processing

Submitted feedback is analyzed by AI models to help you triage, summarize, and act on it faster. Depending on your project's configuration:

  • Platform AI — feedback content is sent to the AI models we configure, through RunAPI, our AI proxy, on our infrastructure. The specific model providers may change as we update the service.
  • Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) — if you supply an API key and optional gateway endpoint, feedback content is sent from our servers to that configured AI provider or gateway using your key. We do not retain a separate copy of that traffic beyond what's needed to process the request.

We do not use your feedback content to train our own models. The configured AI provider or gateway handles that content under its own privacy and data usage terms.

4. Cookies

We use a session cookie strictly for authentication (keeping you signed in). We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. Product analytics on our marketing pages are collected with Plausible, a cookie-free, privacy-friendly analytics tool that does not use persistent identifiers.

5. Sharing of Information

We share information only with the following categories of third parties, each acting as our service provider:

  • Anthropic, OpenAI-compatible providers, or your configured AI gateway (AI processing of feedback content, per Section 3)
  • Stripe (payment processing)
  • Cloudflare (file storage for screenshots and attachments)
  • Postmark (transactional email delivery)
  • Sentry (error monitoring, to keep the Service reliable)
  • GitHub and Linear (issue synchronization when an account enables those integrations, limited to content needed for the linked issue)

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Make This Better, our users, or others.

6. Data Retention

We retain account and feedback data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion at any time as described in Section 8.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege infrastructure access — to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you. Account owners can export or delete data directly from account settings; end users whose feedback was collected via a widget should contact the site owner first, or reach us at [email protected] and we will route the request accordingly.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

10. International Data Transfers

We and our service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "last updated" date on this page.
